When it comes to going over your Master’s odds this week, who should you choose? As part of your best Masters bets for 2022, I give you three players to consider betting on, as well as five props to wager on.
Now that you’ve determined your Master’s odds, it’s time to consider the finest Masters bets you should place. On Thursday, the event begins at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
On our Master’s odds page, I included the favorites, contenders, and longshots. Now, I’ll give you my picks for who you should bet on in Augusta, one for each category. Dustin Johnson is the favorite, having achieved a Masters-record -20 here in November when there were no spectators and the course played far differently than it will at this time of year. History, on the other hand, is not on Johnson’s side. Only Jack Nicklaus (1965 and 1966), Nick Faldo (1989 and 1990), and Tiger Woods have won the Masters twice (2001 and 2002).
Best Masters Bets – Favorites Pick
Justin Thomas (+1200)
Thomas, despite being sixth in Shots Gained: Tee to Green behind Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, and Will Zalatoris, is the finest tee-to-green golfer on the PGA Tour in my opinion (seriously). Although he has struggled off the tee (ranking 101st in SG: Off The Tee), the Kentucky native is third in SG: Approach, 16th in SG: Around The Green, and 55th in SG: Putting. Thomas is struggling on the greens in the final round, ranking 122nd in final-round putting.
Thomas won the PGA Championship in 2017, so he understands how to win big tournaments. Throughout his five visits to Augusta, he’s progressed as well, finishing T39-T22-T17-T12-4. Thomas is also close with Tiger Woods, who is unable to compete at the Masters due to a tragic automobile accident. Woods has five Masters titles, the most recent in 2019, so you’d think Thomas had picked Woods’ brain on how to navigate Augusta. At Augusta, Woods often emphasizes the importance of knowing where to miss. Thomas has almost certainly requested some advice. He also took first place in The Players Championship. Justin Thomas is your man if you’re going to pick a favorite. Because of his recent run, which included a win at the Valero Texas Open, Jordan Spieth will be a popular golf betting option, although Thomas has been more consistent.
Best Masters Bets – Contenders Pick
Collin Morikawa (+2800)
Morikawa is in fourth place in the world golf rankings, two spaces behind Thomas. He’s also a major champion, having won the PGA Championship in the first major without spectators. But, to give Morikawa credit, TPC Harding Park in California is a challenging course, so a victory there still counts. Morikawa is third in SG: Tee to Green because he doesn’t drive the ball far, although he is ninth in driving accuracy, as previously stated. This propels him to the top of the SG: Approach leaderboard, and Augusta is known for being a second-shot course. You’ll always have more chances at a nice approach shot if you can hit into greens from the fairway, and Morikawa’s irons are terrific.
Morikawa’s lone flaw is his putting, which ranks him 179th in SG: Putting. Morikawa is as excellent as anyone in the world when it comes to putting. To get the most out of Augusta, however, you must be consistent. Having said that, Morikawa won the PGA Championship with a final-round 64, so he has it in him.
Best Masters Bets – Longshot Pick
Adam Scott (+6600)
Scott won the Masters in 2013 and has been a member of the cut every year since 2010. Scott has also been in good form recently, having cut in 15 of 16 events since the start of 2020, including a triumph at the Genesis Invitational last year. On the other hand, Scott has one top-10 result, a T-10 at Torrey Pines earlier this year, and a T-13 at the Honda Classic recently.
Scott, who was formerly noted for his magnificent swing but weak putting, has reversed that trend as his career progressed. In SG: Off The Tee, he’s 132nd, but he’s a respectable 56th in SG: Approach. In SG: Around The Green, he is 138th, but 58th in SG: Putting. He does well in the first two rounds as well but has trouble over the weekend. Scott, on the other hand, understands Augusta, and that’s the biggest weapon you can have in that city. He’ll most likely lose, but he’s a solid value golf betting choice.
Best Masters Prop Bets
Patrick Cantlay 1st Round Leader (+2800)
Cantlay is the PGA Tour’s leader in first-round score average, and he should be refreshed after missing out on the knockout rounds at the Match Play.
Xander Schauffele (+150) Top-10 finish
Schauffele also failed to advance beyond the Match Play group stage, missed the cut at The Players Championship, and finished T-39 at the WGC Workday. In his previous 20 starts, Schauffele had finished in the top 10 nine times and was just outside the top 10 in another six. In his last two visits to Augusta, he finished T-2 and T-17.
No Holes In One (+135)
There have been 31 holes-in-one in 85 Masters events, 22 of which have occurred on the 16th hole. In 2020, however, there will be none, and participants will be returning to a different course, even if they have already played it.
Brian Harman Top Lefty (+225)
Harman advanced to the Match Play quarterfinals, but in the round of 16, he ripped off eight birdies in a row over fellow lefty (and two-time Masters champion) Bubba Watson. Harman has only competed in the Masters twice, missing the cut in 2015 and finishing T-44 the following year. He grew up in Georgia and attended the University of Georgia. Harman should be the best lefty at Augusta if he can keep his nerves.
Johnson/Thomas/Spieth/DeChambeau/Rahm/McIlroy (+110) over field (-140)
The favorites (except for Koepka, who is out due to a knee injury) or the field? Anything can happen in a field of 88 golfers. I’m going to ride with the favorites, though. While Thomas and Spieth are currently playing fantastic golf, Johnson is the defending champion and deserves to be respected. DeChambeau can make any course look silly on his day if he simply dials it back a notch. Rahm could be experiencing postpartum depression as a result of his son’s birth. Even McIlroy has a chance because no player’s game is more suited to Augusta National.
